Google recently released a list of the top 1000 sites in the world. While the list is interesting, there are not many surprises at the top. Ranked number one on the list is FaceBook with 540 million unique visitors per month and 570 billion page views, reaching just over 35% of web users. In second place is Yahoo with 490 million unique visitors per month and 70 billion page views.
Unfortunately, Google has decided not to publish statistics for many of their own sites. Popular sites like Youtube.com and Google.com are not includes in the list. The first Google-site listed is Blogspot.com which is ranked 7, with 230 million unique visitors per month and 4.4 billion page views.
The top 1000 list is a part of DoubleClick Ad Planner, and Google now allows Adwords advertisers to specify that they only want ads shown on these top 1000 websites. Information that has been used to compile the list comes from anonymous data from the millions of Google Toolbar users, Google Analytics data and other third-party market research data.
